October 30: Day of Prayer / Día de Oración

The Vatican’s Congregation for Divine Worship has published an instruction entitled “Forms of Worship of the Eucharist.” It says: “Prayer before Christ the Lord 'Sacramentally Present' extends the union with Christ which the faithful have reached in Holy Communion. It renews the covenant which in turn moves them to maintain in their lives what they have received by faith and by Sacraments. They should try to lead their whole lives with the strength derived from the heavenly food, as they share in the death and Resurrection of the Lord.” It also says, “Everyone should be concerned with good deeds and with pleasing God so that he or she may imbue the world with the Christian spirit and be a witness of Christ in the midst of human society.”

In his 2003 Encyclical “Church of the Eucharist,” Saint John Paul II wrote: “Whenever the Church celebrates the Eucharist, the faithful can in some way relive the experience of the two disciples on the road to Emmaus: ‘Their eyes were opened and they recognized him’ [Luke 24, 31].” 

Generations of holy women and men have found that honest, persevering prayer before the Blessed Sacrament has helped them to open their eyes, to accept God’s grace more deeply, and respond to it with greater generosity. Join us on Thursdays in our parish church for Adoration from 8:30am to 8:30pm.

Hay algunas cosas que nos pueden ayudar a comprometernos con una práctica de Adoración semanal:

“No se trata solo de mi.” Como la Misa, la Adoración no se trata necesariamente de lo que nosotros saldrá de esto. Es cierto que las gracias dispensadas por Dios nos ayudan a crecer en santidad, pero el propósito principal de la Adoración está ahí en el nombre del acto: Adorar a Aquel que se nos presenta en la Eucaristía.

“Ser sólo.” Recordamos que en realidad no es necesario hacer cualquier cosa. La fe católica reconoce que el regalo más grande que Dios nos da es Él mismo, y la Adoración es otra forma de reconocer ese regalo además de recibir la Eucaristía en la Misa. Entonces, no lo pienses demasiado. Solo recibe el regalo.

“Orar … con un poco de ayuda.” A veces no tenemos idea de por dónde empezar (¡está bien!). Con el Rosario podemos contemplar los misterios de la vida de Jesús que es contemplar el misterio de la Eucaristía que se nos da y el Santísimo Sacramento que alabamos en la Adoración. Por lo tanto, combinar estas oraciones es un gran hábito. Leer la Biblia también es buena cosa y nos puede ayudar. Sobre todo, recordemos recibir el regalo de Cristo en la Eucaristía y simplemente estar presente ante Dios.
