At our very center of our lives is a “gifted dignity” that is deeper than any good that we do or any accomplishments that we might claim, which ought to put us at ease with God and fill us with confidence in Him.
The words which Jesus utters about sparrows in Luke 12, 1-7 are a key statement about God and the manner in which He blesses us. The sparrow was a very common bird of no great distinction. Yet, according to Jesus, not one sparrow is forgotten in God’s sight. God knows even the least and smallest of creatures. So, if the humble sparrow is cherished and cared for by God, how much more are we cherished and cared for?
God knows the smallest detail of our lives, but we still wonder how can He pay attention to each individual in this crowded world. Jesus assures us that God is a caring Father, close to us, and caring for each one of us. Some homework as we head into the weekend: how can we entrust ourselves all the more to God and do so without reserve?
