May 5: “It is the Lord.” / “Es el Señor.”

This is not news to any of us: we are often so distracted and in such a big hurry that we miss many of the “moments of grace” which the Lord sends our way. The truth is that if we were less distracted and in less of a hurry, we could see more of God’s workings in the people and the events of our lives. At the very least, we could see at all, but also make the time to look beneath the surface.

Even if we are distracted and in a hurry, each of us still looks at the world in different ways: with wide interest or through a narrow lens; with a large heart (seeing signs of goodness everywhere) or with a narrow focus on our personal concerns; or with faith that accepts even miracles or with pessimism that sees only the worst in things.

On the Third Sunday of Easter, we heard (in John 21, 1-19) that the disciples did not recognize the Risen Lord on the shore of the lake. It was not until St. John cried out, “It is the Lord” that they made haste to take their boat ashore. He ate with them, taught them, and encouraged them. He does much the same for us each day of our lives. At some “moment of grace” today, remember to say (even out loud): “It is the Lord.”

La Eucaristía es: realidad, rito, Sacramento, y celebración. Es el centro de la vida de la Iglesia, que expresa su más profundo ser … y que es, al mismo tiempo, como un diamante con múltiples facetas, que (lo miremos por donde lo miremos) siempre contiene una riqueza y una belleza que nunca se agota.

En la Misa del Tercer Domingo de Pascua, San Juan, desde su barca, (en Juan 21, 1-19) gritó: “Es el Señor.” Sus palabras nos han animado por casi dos siglos y son palabras que podemos repetir especialmente cuando estamos alrededor de la Mesa del Señor celebrando la Eucaristía: “Es el Señor.”

Buscamos por Él siempre, pero Jesús nos confronta hoy con esta pregunta: “¿Por qué me están ustedes buscando?” ¿Por qué buscamos a Jesús? ¿Es solamente por los dones que Él nos da? Cierto que recibimos mucho de Él, pero ¿buscamos a Jesús mismo, por lo que Él significa para nuestras vidas? Esforcémonos por acercarnos más a Él y llegar a ser más como Él. Él nos pide fe en su persona y en su misión.
