The weather vane for our new Community Center includes symbols from the original four parishes in North Portland and the University of Portland. As many already know, the Archdiocese made the decision back in 1999 to “close” three parish and create a new home for all of the Catholic faithful here on the Peninsula, calling it the North Portland Catholic Community. The new official name did not last long, but the community continues to thrive and we are now proudly working to build our community all the more and truly bless our future.
The new weather vane includes:
• a Scripted A for Assumption Parish
• a Dove of Peace for Queen of Peace Parish
• a Chalice for Blessed Sacrament Parish
• the Cross-Anchor for the priests of Holy Cross and the University of Portland
• the Holy Cross Parish’s Cross (from our present parish logo)
Our hope in providing a weather vane which includes part of our past is that we never forget the vibrancy of the faith (past and present) here in our neighborhoods, the long and important legacy of our presence here, and the debt of gratitude we owe to all of those who have brought us to where we are today. God is good. All the time!
