January 29: Light and Hope / Luz y Esperanza

In Mark 4, 21-25, we are told not to hide the light of our faith under a bushel basket or a bucket. Rather, we are to show our faith and our relationship with Christ by the way we live our lives. The Lord makes it clear that the gift we have received is not meant as “private treasure” to be held close or with a firm grip, nor is it a gift reserved for only a few select believers. It is a gift destined to be shared as generously as possible, especially in serving others.

On the other hand, we are not asked to make public displays of piety in order to win credit from others. Rather, we try to live by faith in order to give glory to God.

Please join us today on our parish’s weekly Day of Prayer, accompanied by Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Mass begins at 8:30am and the final Benediction (or Blessing) will be given at 8:30pm. Spend an hour in the Lord’s presence or even just a few minutes. The doors of our parish church will be open all day long.

Hoy y siempre se nos invita a reflexionar sobre la responsabilidad que conlleva haber recibido la luz de Dios. Jesús utiliza imágenes sencillas y cotidianas: una lámpara no se enciende para ocultarla, sino para colocarla en lo alto y que ilumine. Con esta enseñanza, el Señor nos recuerda que la fe no es un tesoro privado ni un conocimiento reservado a unos pocos; es un don destinado a ser compartido y puesto al servicio de los demás. 

En pocas palabras, la luz representa la Palabra de Dios y el mensaje del Reino. Quien la acoge en su corazón está llamado a dejar que transforme su vida y, a través de ella, ilumine el camino de otros. No basta con escuchar; es necesario vivir lo escuchado. Por eso Jesús insiste: “El que tenga oídos para oír, que oiga.” Escuchar, en clave bíblica, significa acoger con atención y responder con coherencia. Vivir como Dios quiere, intentando cumplir siempre su voluntad.

¡Que la luz de Cristo brille en nosotros, pues sólo somos luces de fe, hasta el punto de que reflejamos la luz del mensaje y de la vida de Cristo! Todos están invitados: habrá Adoración hoy desde las 8:30am hasta las 8:30pm.
